McHenry Community High School District 156 leaders received a $2,500 donation Wednesday (June 22) from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 in McHenry as part of a large investment in community and veterans organizations through the VFW’s popular Queen of Hearts raffle.
It is part of a total of $250,000 going to local schools, police and fire, as well as regional and national veterans organizations, said John Hrynkow, senior vice commander of VFW Post 4600.
The McHenry High School donation will go into the principals’ activity fund.
“We’ll put it to good use and keep the community partnership alive,” said Dr. Jeff Prickett, McHenry High School principal.
Hrynkow said the donations are a way for the VFW to give back to the community and to other veterans. In addition to McHenry High School, they’ve donated to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District and the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, among others.
“We have a pretty big variety of groups we give to,” Hrynkow said. “We don’t forget our police, fire and schools.”
