McHenry High School Graphics 2 students are embarking on a new project to partner with a local graphic design company and create a custom car wrap display to showcase their skills.
Students took the first step recently by meeting with Luke Zoetmulder from Sticker Dude in March to start the research and design phase of the vehicle wrap project to honor the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. They met with American Legion representatives the following day to get some inspiration for designs.
The idea for the project is to have students work on a vehicle wrap project from start to finish so that they gain experience working with customers on a long-term project. Students will make their designs based on the early meetings, then one design will be selected. Then students will work on producing the wrap and installing it on two car doors and a hood.
The finished products will be displayed in the advanced graphics lab – home to the full-service printing operations MCHS Warriors Ink – in McHenry High School’s Center for Science, Technology and Industry. The plan is to select a new business or organization each year as a partner in the project.
“You guys are lucky enough to be the first group to be doing this project,” graphics Instructor Matt Connor told students. Zoetmulder has visited with McHenry High School students in the past, but this is the first time he’ll be working with the students from start to finish.
Sticker Dude specializes in vehicle wraps along with banners, signs, wall murals and more.
Zoetmulder said he’s looking forward to working more with the students.
“My goal is to kind of mold future employees,” he said.
