Students in the new HOSA Future Health Professionals club earned high marks at a recent state competition

The first-ever HOSA Future Health Professionals team from MCHS made the trip to Springfield this week to compete in the statewide conference and competition, and several students placed in the top 10 of their categories.

The HOSA Future Health Professionals Illinois conference took place Monday through Wednesday, March 17-19, at the BOS Centre in Springfield. More than 1,200 high school students throughout the state participated.

The following is a list of MCHS students who placed in the top 10 in their categories:

  • Addison Nemec, Jovanna Piotrowicz, Julianna Piotrowicz and Rachel Mynes for Biomedical Debate

  • Savannah Cagle for Medical Reading

  • Quetzaly Casillas for Medical Spelling

  • Addison Nemec and Nia Varela for Clinical Laboratory Science

The MCHS HOSA Future Health Professionals chapter started this year for students interested in careers in biomedical science. Northwestern Medicine made a $1,000 donation to the club to attend the conference.

In addition to offering Project Lead the Way biomedical curriculum, MCHS also created a new Certified Nursing Assistant program this year along with a new Biomedical Innovations and Experiences course.
