McHenry Community High School’s Warrior Buddies club is preparing to celebrate kindness through the annual Inclusion Week during the first week of March to encourage a more inclusive school community.
Students at both Freshman Campus and Upper Campus have the opportunity to participate in activities to win prizes. It all starts Monday with the Garden of Inclusion during lunch periods.
In the cafeterias, students can write on a flower sticker about what inclusion means to them. The stickers are added to a display on the wall to create a beautiful garden.
On Tuesday through Thursday, there will be Goosechase activities for students who will be invited to join the scavenger hunt individually or with friends. There will be several inclusion-themed challenges and raffles for gift cards or other Inclusion Week merchandise.
On Friday during lunch periods, students can participate in a social media campaign centered around encouraging kindness. There will be a KIND display and photo booth so students can be the “I” in KIND and share photos on social media.
Friday is also Twin Day.At MCHS, the week is sponsored by the Warrior Buddies club, which seeks to create friendships between students with and without disabilities. It is part of a larger campaign promoted by Spread the Word: Inclusion and Special Olympics to encourage a kinder inclusive community and end the use of disparaging language.
