Flyers with information about April 5 Multicultural Fair at MCHS

McHenry Community High School is preparing to showcase cultures from around the world at the school’s Multicultural Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday (April 5) at Upper Campus in McHenry.

The free event will feature different vendors offering authentic food, performances, literature, crafts, games and more from different parts of the world. Organizers are hoping to exceed last year’s lineup of more than 30 vendors.

“We’re looking to provide a great mix of cultures for everyone to experience,” said Kelsey Podgorski, assistant director of multilingual education for McHenry High School District 156.

“At our first fair last year, people enjoyed the variety of things to see and do. I hope it grows every year.”

Anyone interested in becoming a vendor should contact Podgorski at PodgorskiKelsey@dist156.org.

In addition to outside vendors, many McHenry High School clubs and organizations also participate, including the Latin American Student Organization, Key Club, Art Honor Society and MCHS Bands.

Podgorski said she hopes the event is not only fun but provides an opportunity for everyone to share their cultures with each other. She got the idea from her teaching days when classes would study immigration. She’s also modeling it after a similar Culture Blast at Central High School in Burlington.

It all takes place in the main gym, cafeteria, and the hallway between at McHenry High School - Upper Campus, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Road, McHenry. Check out this
