Children's Music Day flyer for Jan. 18 event

A new Middle School Music Clinic is now part of the lineup for the Jan. 18 Children’s Music Day at McHenry Community High School.

Hosted by the school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society Chapter 139, the now daylong event is meant to inspire young musicians by having high school students teach them different aspects of making music.

Children’s Music Day is from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to any child in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Middle School Clinic is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. and open to students in grades six, seven and eight.

Both events will be held in the Auditorium at Upper Campus, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Road. Space is limited so registration is required. Both have a cost of $5 per student.

Children’s Music Day features several stations for participating children to rotate through and learn about the many aspects of making music. Stations are:

  • Sing Along Station

  • Composer's Corner

  • Instrument Playground

  • Conductor's Station

  • Drum Circle

It ends with a concert finale for students to showcase what they’ve learned. Space is limited to 15 students for each grade level.

For the new Middle School Music Clinic, band and choir students are invited to spend the afternoon with high school students for hands-on activities to work on a variety of music skills, such as tone and pitch, warm-up techniques, rhythm and more. Space is limited to 50 band students and 50 choir students.
