A total of 46 McHenry Community High School District 156 seniors have been named Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission in recognition of superior academic achievement.
ISAC annually selects Illinois State Scholars from eligible high schools throughout the state, based on a formula that includes class rank and performance on ACT and SAT testing. About 10 percent of Illinois high school students are selected for the program.
“We are very proud of these students,” said Dr. Ryan McTague, superintendent for District 156. “Their efforts in high school are setting the stage for successful futures.”
Illinois State Scholars are each awarded a certificate from the state commission as well as a digital badge to display online and share. District 156 recognized their group in December with a reception and cookies. They’ll also be acknowledged during Senior Honor Night in May.
Across the state, nearly 16,700 seniors from 687 high schools have been selected for this recognition. ISAC Executive Director Eric Zarnikow also acknowledged high school teachers, school counselors and family members for supporting these students along the way.
“These high school seniors managed through the personal and learning challenges of the pandemic for several years of high school, and their accomplishments reflect their passion and dedication to academic pursuits,” Zarnikow said.
