The McHenry Community High School Theatre Department is staging “The Secret in the Wings” by Chicago-area writer and performer Mary Zimmerman that takes a humorous look at some lesser-known and dark Grimm fairy tales.
Tickets are on sale now for the show that will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 7-9 in the theater at Freshman Campus, 1012 N. Green St. Tickets are $10 each.
Andrew Hillier, French and drama instructor at McHenry Community High School, said the show offers great dialogue and interesting scenes that everyone should enjoy.
“I chose the script because I love Mary Zimmerman's poetic language and, more importantly, I thought it would be a good challenge for our actors, especially in terms of movement and playing a variety of characters,” Hillier said.
An adaptation of lesser-known Grimm’s fairy tales that reflects the darker undercurrents of
childhood, the show features Zimmerman's unique wit and humor. The story centers around a child and her babysitter, who shares stories of hope, despair, terror, and resilience.
Tickets can be purchased online and at the door (online is preferred). All seats are general seating.
The Freshman Campus Theater is located on the third floor. Attendees can check in at the theater table.
